Servers and Networks
If your enterprise has more than one PC then at some point you are likely to want to share data or share resources such as your broadband internet connection, printers or scanners.

The first step along this path will often be to install a broadband router. Your PC's can be connected to the router using physical cabling or wireless technologies. Via the router, the PC's can simultaneously access the Internet and the router also establishes the network connections such that data and devices can be shared.

However, spreading your data around various PC's then introduces its own set of problems; the data becomes hard to find, hard to secure, hard to control. Enter the server, your means of keeping your data in a single location. The server then becomes the focal point of your efforts to ensure that your data is secure, resilient and recoverable.

In a small network the server can just be a PC running Windows XP, either dedicated to the task or used for other purposes. As the network grows however you are more likely to need the greater degree of control provided by a domain network with a server running a specialised operating system. Generally for small businesses Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 would be the preferred choice.

So, your use of networks and servers is likely to evolve in parallel with the growth of your business. Wherever you are on this evolution we can help you move to the next stage, so please call us for a free consultation.
